Running Into Problems
Starting out in student life can be a daunting experience, the pressure of deadlines, the vast amounts of coursework, trying to get on with your new teachers, tutors and fellow students. Here's a basic guide to push past these barriers successfully and be a success.
I Don't Like My Course What Can I Do
Changing a course can be a traumatic experience, and the best way to make this process run smoothly is to set the wheels in motion as soon as possible. If you can't stand the computer course and want to do journalism then your first stop should be a talk with your tutor. It's always possible to make a course switch but just be prepared for a lot of catch up study if you leave it too late.
I Can't Meet My Coursework Deadline
Some say Bart Simpson is the best character at providing cool excuses for missing deadlines set by your teachers. Well forget all you have learned from him, the majority of teachers and lecturers have heard every lame excuse in the world. If you really do have external problems in your family life or medically then approach your tutor before the deadline expires, you'll be surprised what a bit of honesty can do.
I'm Going To Fail My Course
Well I bet you did see this coming didn't you. Don't despair we all make mistakes it's what we do with them that counts. As usual making a visit to your tutor is the best place to start. They may be able to arrange some extra work to catch up or even arrange for you to retake certain course parts. Whatever you do don't just hope it will go away or you'll be out on your ear come the end of term.
I Don't Get On With Them
There's a nasty side to all aspects of life, whether it be work, student life or any other scenario. How you deal with these situations will determine your life in general so it's best to learn from the off. Each uni & college will provide you with a code of conduct, generally in the form of a booklet. This will describe all the ins and outs of grievance procedures and disciplinary matters. If you ever find yourself on the receiving end of a nasty experience then consult your booklet and then your tutor. Above all just make sure that you toe the line and be as open as possible.
